Dear Parents and Students,
I am so excited to begin this year! I look forward to meeting many of you in the near future. It is going to be a fun, yet challenging year. I would like to share with you my role as your child's teacher. I have the responsibility to help your child grow, and succeed academically, emotionally, and socially. I believe that we are a team - the teacher, student, and parent who work together to achieve success of your child. Communication is extremely important; therefore I will try to do a lot of emailing, phone calling, monthly newsletters, and personal notes home.
I have prepared this parent handbook to help you learn more about our classroom goals, curriculum, organizational systems, and room management. I am hoping that you, your child, and I can work as a team in providing an excellent education for your son or daughter.
Is a privilege and a pleasure to teach your child. I realized that it is at times difficult to send your most precious possessions off to begin a new grade, especially if you may know very little about the person who will be spending a major portion of each day with your child. I hope in reading this you will get to know me a little better.
Creating a warm, safe environment for my students is one of my first priorities. I let the children know that I don't allow teasing or put-downs of any kind in our classroom; instead I encourage students to treat each other with kind words and ways. We strive to work as a team and helping one another to learn and grow.
Another goal I am hoping to achieve is to help my students love school. I found that by treating others with respect and excepted, giving choice when possible, and by creating lessons designed for success, students begin to relax after a while. In this kind of environment it is safer to take risks such as answering a question, giving a suggestion or trying a new skill.
Every Friday, with the exception of holidays, and the first week of school, your child may come home with a Progress Report. This paper shows you the work that your child is missing for that particular week. I expect to have this back no later than Monday morning with the completed work attached. Please make sure you sign the Progress Report only AFTER you've seen the completed/corrected work. If I do not receive a child's work by Tuesday he or she will be asked to stay in at their recess until all work is finished. They will also make a phone call home. If your child has turned in all of their work for that particular week he/she will receive "Cougar/Moose Money" or or and or free assignment, which they may use at my discretion. It is extremely important that your child stay caught up with their work.
If you have any questions or concerns about the student handbook or any part of our curriculum please let me know.
Thank you again for your help and support!
Sincerely,
Teresa Keenan and Linda Madderra
